2010

Saturday 23rd January - Michael George Gibson - 7.30pm - Light in the Dark - English Poetry and Music Over 13000 Years - A Midwinter Medley of Stories, Songs and Riddles. Michael is a self-confessed 'poetry activist & trouble maker'.  He calls himself 'a husbandman and poetician.' He has worked on the land for 35 years and has delved to the roots of English poetry which he presents, so far as possible, in the original tones and dialects.  He has translated and recorded 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight' and other earlier texts and plays his own and traditional tunes on a pipe as he leads his audience back to 'Beowulf' and the riddles in the Exeter Book that would have been enjoyed in the days of Alfred the Great.  £6 (£7 door)

Friday 12th February - Landermason & Gareth Davies-Jones - double-header - "A Landermason concert brings variety by the bucketful as they flow effortlessly between hauntingly beautiful ballads, livelier soulful explorations of life, jaunty jazz and folk tunes and the bounciest of jigs." Hexham Courant. Properganda Magazine states, "From Northern Ireland , now based in Northumberland, Gareth Davies-Jones is currently one of the UK 's best-kept musical secrets. But not for much longer. With his third album, Water + Light, Gareth is poised for a breakthrough ... His best album yet (and Gareth raises that bar high), it's a baker's dozen of fine folk-tinged tracks ... Eleven original songs, a splendidly moody instrumental that closes out the album, plus his rousing version of the traditional Black Velvet Band sit together as snugly as weary travellers at a pub fireside on a bracing day." As well as individual tracks from both Gareth and Landermason, there will be several joint numbers in each set. £10 (£12 door)

Friday 26th February - Anna Shannon (BBC Radio Yorkshire Songwriter of the Year 2006). "She's a truly fine multi-instrumentalist, a great singer and as far as I'm concerned, a major songwriting talent. The clubs and festivals are yearning for what she has to offer." (Vin Garbutt). Support by Tippin the Wink. £6 (£8 door).

Friday 12th March - Chris Wood - support Spinndrift - Chris received the 'Folk Singer of the Year' award, and his CD Trespessar was named 'Album of the Year' at the BBC Folk Awards 2009. "He has become one of the very few singer/songwriters who bothers to engage with real life as it happens to us all, a master craftsman, completely devoid of artifice and insincerity."  Ellen Cranitch (The Irish Times) - £12 (£14 door)

Friday 19th March - Paul Wheater Sings Jim Reeves (Paul, known as 'Yorkshire's Jim Reeves') has filled the Albert Hall twice with his Jim Reeves concerts.  Hear him in Reeth! - £7 (£8 door)
